Rianne Aarts (1991)

Rianne Aarts (1991) is a Dutch textile artist whose practice explores the interplay between geometry, materiality and emotion. Drawing inspiration from the natural world, she creates sculptural textile compositions in which rhythm, texture and subtle transitions of colour evoke a sense of movement and tranquillity. Her work reflects a continuous dialogue between structure and spontaneity, balancing geometric precision with the organic qualities of natural fibres.
Working primarily with organic cotton, recycled textiles, wool and linen, Aarts employs traditional techniques such as knotting, weaving and hand-dyeing. Each composition is meticulously constructed by hand, allowing the inherent characteristics of the materials to shape its visual and tactile presence. Some works celebrate the understated beauty of undyed fibres, while others reveal delicate tonal variations inspired by shifting landscapes, light and shadow. Through this considered approach, Aarts creates works that engage with their surroundings and invite a closer exploration of texture, depth and form.
Aarts studied at Academie Minerva in Groningen and holds a degree in Law from the University of Groningen. Choosing to pursue her artistic practice, she has dedicated herself fully to textile art since 2016, developing a distinctive visual language rooted in craftsmanship and material sensitivity. Her works are held in private collections and featured in international interior projects, where they establish a quiet yet compelling dialogue between artwork, architecture and space.
