Overview of works

Martha Scheeren (1958)
Based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands
The work of Call Me Frank explores the relationship between memory, human posture, and wood. In his delicate and complex wood veneer portraits, each piece of wood tells its own story: the growth rings, knots, and scars are traces of time and experience, visible and tangible, while simultaneously reflecting the silhouette and posture of the subject. The story of the wood reveals the character and the life traces of the person.
Using an extremely precise inlay technique, he composes the individual veneer pieces into a harmonious portrait. Each fragment is carefully selected for grain, texture, and color, so that the lines of the body flow naturally and the material supports the narrative of the subject. The result is a portrait that focuses on the inner architecture of body and mind — a tangible translation of memory, emotion, and time, captured in the poetry of wood.
